Prayer and spending time with God’s people are integral parts of a believer’s life. We had the opportunity to speak with three Sycamore members as they shared their diverse personal experiences during the previous Super Saturday services as well as the one tip that has transformed their prayer life.
Introductions
Eunice:
My name is Eunice Kuram; a final-year student. I joined Sycamore Church in February 2021, and I’m grateful for the home and family I’ve found here.
Otitooluwa:
My name is Otitooluwa Fatoki. A final-year student of Physiology at the University of Ibadan. I lead Campus Connect in Sycamore Church.
Odunola:
My name is Odunolaoluwa Jenrola. I’m an Electrical and Electronics final-year Student at the University of Ibadan. I serve in venue management and in the creative shows team.
How would you describe Super Saturday to someone who is considering coming around but is still unsure?
Eunice:
I would say that Super Saturday is a day when we get to pray together as a family! And this means that we get to ride off the energy of the room even as we pray.
Even better, church makes it easier for us to pray by providing slides to serve as prompts. There are many times I’ve had to literally drag myself to Super Saturday. But at the end, I’m always grateful I came!
Otitooluwa:
I would personally describe Super Saturday as “A You With God Moment With Family.” I know that sounds contradictory, but it is a personal moment you get to spend with God while surrounded by family.
Odunola:
Super Saturday remains a safe space for me to join my faith with other believers to cry out to our Father. Even when I might not always have the words to pray, prayer prompts shown on screen push me to carry on in my conversation with God.
How has Super Saturday has impacted your prayer life?
Eunice:
Quick disclaimer: At some point in 100 level, Super Saturday accounted for 80% of my prayer life. I was struggling to keep up a consistent personal prayer routine with God so most of my prayers was during super Saturday. But here’s the thing, I was always praying about my prayer life at Super Saturday. “God help me to pray more, God help me to spend more time with you…”.
It was prayers like this that I made then, that are currently helping me nurture the prayer routine that I now have. Additionally, Super Saturday has taught me the merit in praying for longer hours and praying with people or inviting people to join me in praying over a situation as I’ve always been someone who’d rather face things alone.
Otitooluwa:
Super Saturday has always been an eye opener to things I could be doing better when it comes to my prayer life. Super Saturday helps me connect my prayers to scriptures very easily. I now find it easier to pray from the scriptures.
Odunola:
I found it hard to pray for long prior to becoming a regular Super Saturday attendee. While I’m definitely still a work in progress, it is safe to say that my prayer life is so much better now. I no longer feel as confused as I used to even when I’m praying back at home.
One tip that has transformed your prayer life that you’d like to share with someone
Eunice:
Seeing God as my friend, that’s the tip. This makes me happy to run to him, spend time with him, tell him all of my deepest secrets. It also makes me want to always hear his heart, and tell him about everything going on in my life which serves as a reminder me that I can always come back to him no matter how far I stray.
Otitooluwa:
I once heard from a very good friend of mine to simply start from where you are and to genuinely and honestly talk to God. Additionally, another tip is consistency in your prayer life. Simply put, if you miss one day, don’t miss the next.
Odunola:
Getting a quiet and safe space and prioritizing prayer early in the morning before doing anything else has really helped me. I believe that the energy you start your day with dictates how the rest of the day will follow. To me, starting your day with a conversation with God is committing the rest of the day to him and acknowledging that he comes before all.
Is there a particular theme, declaration, bible verse or message from previous Super Saturdays that resonates with you?
Eunice:
Yes, there’s a lot! But I’ll choose this one;
“Because of Jesus my fears will not live, my hope will not die.”
Otitooluwa:
We say this in church often, but I think the first time it hit me deep was one Super Saturday where we declared this: “My Fears will not live, my Hope will not die because of Jesus”
Odunola:
For me, it will be, “I am connected to my Source.”
Conclusion
As another super Saturday is coming up, we invite you to join us. Praying together in community is a way to connect with God and his people.
You don’t need to have all the words, just come. If you are willing to ask in prayer, we have a God who is ready to answer. We encourage you to make it a date with your family!
See you on Saturday!!!
