I remember how I became a Christian. It is almost 10 years ago now but there is no doubt in my mind that someone gave me a chance. and it wasn’t just one person.
There were the people who took it upon themselves to go from house to house and teach bible stories to children and anyone interested. that was my first real introduction to the bible. Even though I acted like those missionaries were just disturbing me, how interesting those stories were to my young curious mind!
I didn’t become a Christian then, but seeds had been planted and I knew I wanted to be better than I was.
Then there was the Christian novel that I read which God used to take hold of my heart and show me clearly that there is a better life than one lived without Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit. I so much wanted that life! and thankfully, the book talked about how to surrender to God and accept his gift of salvation! That was another chance and I took it!
And then there was the church that God suddenly brought just a few metres from my house. The pastor invited me to church and I found a place where I could grow and use my skills and energy to serve God and his people.
Several years and relocations later, God is still working through his people to give you and me chances.
To paraphrase Pastor Tolulope Moody, from the message Why Would You Be A Religious Christian, “Week in and week out, God’s people are laying down their time, energy, skills, resources and lives to create chances for more people to experience the life-changing power of Jesus Christ.”
The salvation and grace of God we have received came to us on the back of crazy generosity. For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son.., and church volunteers so love God and the people he died to save that they keep on giving!
As you go on with your day, remember not to be a selfish beneficiary of God’s grace. Share Christ deliberately with your world. Tithe and honour God with the first ten percent of your earnings. Serve God cheerfully and like the prayer we prayed in church after listening to Why Would You Be A Religious Christian, really, really, really, really love God.
So many people gave us chances to experience Jesus, you also give someone a chance to experience Jesus today. Remember, “everybody deserves a chance to reject Jesus”.
