Reading Time: 4 mins
Sycamore Church is 10 this month! Can you believe it? It’s been a decade of love, laughter, and life-changing Jesus-encounters within the walls of our church.
This is a time to celebrate the future and the blessings God is bringing us, both within our community and beyond. It’s also a good moment to reflect on the wonderful memories we’ve created during this decade-long journey.
With that in mind we invited our church family to share their memories, gratitude, and prayers by writing letters to the church.
Keep reading to find out their heartwarming responses.
P.S: You may want to grab some tissues for this one.
“Every Service Here Has Been A Hit” – Lase
Dear Sycamore Church,
I’m most grateful for how you’ve helped me grow from a young person who was always so fearful, and looking to hide, into someone who’s now a confident leader.
My first Sunday at Sycamore Church was an anniversary celebration. I recall they distributed gifts, and Pastor ‘Debola Moody waited for us at the door after the service. At the time, I didn’t know who she was. She greeted me with a broad smile, offered a warm hug, and then handed me a can of Pringles. At the time, Pringles was my favorite snack, so I took it as a sign that Sycamore was meant to be my home. Six years later, I’m very grateful for that decision.
Every service here has been a hit, back to back. Life Groups and Campus Connect, in particular, have had a HUGE impact on my growth journey. Creative Shows have also been a major highlight of my time as a member and volunteer.
I pray that you continue to help individuals see Jesus amidst the noise, and that people keep finding safety and family within our house.
All my love,
Lase
“Each Small Gesture Has Reminded Me Of The Impact We Have On One Another” – Damilare
My Home,
You’ve given me the space to push myself out of my comfort zone, to explore new things, and to discover strengths I never knew I had. It’s through volunteering and serving as a team lead within this Church that I’ve truly come to know myself better.
When I think back on the memories we’ve created together, there are countless moments that stand out. From getting a random word of acknowledgement and appreciation from a member, to getting a shout-out from one of our guest preachers.
Each small gesture has reminded me of the impact we have on one another. I guess it’s true what they say – you never know how big your little is. And the most beautiful part is your emphasis on belonging.
Pastor’s words of “our house is not built on the sacrifices of a few, but on the generosity of many” constantly reminds me of the need to make everyone feel welcome and seen. I pray that as we continue to call you home, our lives become blessed, and our influence will extend far beyond these walls.
With Love,
Damilare
“It’s Been A Great Journey So Far” – Liwi
Dear Sycamore,
Thank you for giving me the gift of Life Groups. They have been a significant highlight of my time here, particularly the Sports and Fitness Life group.
For a long time, I wanted to get back to being fit but it was proving difficult. I lacked the zeal, consistency, and encouragement in the form of people to do it with.
Then, I made the decision to join the Sports and Fitness life group, and that was it. I’ve made a conscious effort to attend weekly sessions in the Life group, understanding that consistency is key to fitness. Additionally, I’ve signed up for a gym membership, and I’m now committed to staying fit. It’s been a great journey so far.
Thank you, Sycamore, for this initiative and its positive impact.
With Love,
Liwi
“I’ve Grown In Ways I Never Thought Possible” – Iyinoluwa
Dear Sycamore,
I had to share my gratitude for this incredible community I’m now a part of. You are more than a church, Sycamore – you’re a warm embrace, a safe space, and a home away from home.
I’ve made so many fond memories here, from the amazing Sycamore Getaway, to the late-night heart-to-hearts in Life Group meetings. I’ve also made many friends through different activities, and I am so thankful to be a part of this beautiful Church community.
Through the love and encouragement of Sycamore, I’ve grown in ways I never thought possible. You’ve given me cheerleaders and friends, and I can’t wait to see what the next ten years hold for you. I pray you grow in expansion and reach to all people.
So here’s to you, Sycamore, for a decade of miracles and memories that will last a lifetime.
All my love,
Iyinoluwa
“My first experience in Sycamore Church was Love” – Seyi
Dear Sycamore Church,
I’m really grateful for you. Before I joined, I didn’t have any friends. I had people I talked to and colleagues at work, but there was no genuine connection. My first experience in Sycamore Church was Love. I saw people I knew and people I did not know smile at me and extend warm hugs my way. Today, about 90 percent of my friends that I share a deep connection with are from Sycamore church.
When I joined this church, I didn’t understand what Life Groups meant. It was after like two meetings (shout-out to my Life Group leader then, Miss Similoluwa Agun) that I began to get the idea. I found myself re-watching sermons on YouTube whenever I didn’t understand something, because I wanted to be able to share in Life Group meetings. This exercise was so helpful in helping me build my focus on Jesus. I still find it very helpful now that I am a life group leader.
I’m thankful for how far God has brought Sycamore Church and where He is taking us to. God has great plans for this church, and I pray that He will continue to help us grow. Amen.
With love,
Seyi
“It’s been such a ride and I wouldn’t change a single moment of it” – Mercy
Dear Friends,
I’ve been doing a lot of reflecting lately, and you know what keeps popping up? Gratitude. Yep, that warm feeling you get when you realize how lucky you are to be a part of something special. For me, that something special is Sycamore. It’s been such a ride and I wouldn’t change a single moment of it.
Sycamore Church, you’ve been my support system, and my inspiration. I am most thankful for the empowerment you’ve given me to lead. The monthly training and community of other leaders make me feel safe and helped on my leadership journey.
The lasting memories we’ve made together, such as the ‘Loventure’ couples’ getaway, have been satisfying. You’ve not only shaped my leadership but you’ve also helped me serve with authenticity and compassion. Through the love of this incredible family, I’ve grown, evolved, and discovered myself.
I pray that Sycamore will never lose its purpose. It will continue to be a place of salvation in our community, a place where all are welcome, loved, and accepted as they are.
In Heartfelt Thanks,
Mercy
