Sights and Sounds From The Previous Creative Show “Crossed”

If there’s one thing the Sycamore Creative Show team will do, it’s to put up a show guiding people to the truth that is Jesus. The last creative show, “Crossed”, was no exception.

Follow me on this ride as I take you through some sights and sounds from the show.

The show started with a beautiful rendition of “Shoemaker” by 121 Selah. From that moment, I knew we were in for a ride! I had chills just from listening to the creative show choir sing. You can imagine my edge-of-the-seat excitement as anticipation for what was coming filled my heart.

Afterwards, we are introduced to our main characters: Joseph, the responsible older brother, and John, the wayward younger brother. We see him engaged in a fierce fight with another character and Joseph, drags him away from the fight scene. The tension is palpable at this point.

(Joseph and John’s mother nursing John’s injury)

The older brother encourages his younger brother to be more responsible, and the younger brother who simply would not listen to sound wisdom continues on the path of foolish, youthful exuberance.

And then, there’s Linda. Let me break this down for you.

You see, John and making stupid decisions are 5 and 6. As you can imagine, John’s relationship with Linda ends up being one of those stupid decisions.

Why? Because Linda is a close friend of Titi – the babe with the unfiltered mouth and the compulsive need to “say things as they are” and speak her mind with no regard for her victim’s mental health.

Now, Linda invites Titi along with some other friends, to John’s house for a party. And Titi brings her stash of drugs and drinks along with her.

The party begins with loud music, conversations, dancing, and drinking, while an eccentric neighbor, who is really an undercover gossip hunter, is just around the corner listening and observing as though waiting for calamity to strike.

As the party progresses, Titi shows her true colors. She’s high on skushies and starts to taunt John, calling him a bastard, a dullard, a failure. She keeps punching his emotional pain points with her words.

(Titi insulting John while Linda tries to salvage the situation)

To make the implication of this scene clearer, remember that she is doing this to John, who was introduced as having anger management issues. And here she is, dancing at the gates of John’s anger and triggering the monster within him to be unleashed.

Linda tries to stop the heated argument from deteriorating but it only gets worse as Titi attempts to break John’s head with a bottle.

John finally lashes out in anger and violently pushes Titi to the ground.  The next thing we know, Titi falls to the ground, DEAD! It all just kinda happened.

In that moment, I could feel the pulse of the audience. Personally, I felt the effect of that fall in my bones. And I wasn’t the one who fell. It was that tangible.

Linda doesn’t believe her friend is dead so she tries to vigorously shake her into breathing again. She screams her name, several times, hoping that it’s all a joke and that she would come back to earth. But when the reality dawns on her, she fidgets and cries.

(Linda unsuccessfully attempting to bring Titi back to earth)

John, realising what has just transpired, sits on the floor, a crumpled mass of despair. He knows he is in deep trouble.

Remember the eccentric neighbour? The one that seemed to be waiting for calamity to strike? Yeah, she calls the police force reporting that a crime has taken place in her vicinity.

(The eccentric, nosy neighbour, reporting to the police)

Things start moving really fast when Joseph, John’s older brother, comes back to the house, only to find that his brother had committed murder. The police arrive and Joseph then does the unthinkable for his younger brother. He takes the blame for the murder.

(Joseph, being rough-handled by the police)

Joseph is arrested, beaten up and locked up in jail. My eyes welled up with unshed tears but as the hard girl that I am, I blamed it on the onions someone must have been cutting around me.

(Joseph being beaten in jail)

Then the spoken word piece rendition, titled “The Jesus who gave it all”, squeezed out the remaining emotions in me and I let the tears roll down my cheeks. I was undone as I was reminded of the enormous sacrifice of Jesus on the cross for me. Just for me.

(Amakason, the spoken word poet)

Pictures don’t do enough justice. I highly recommend that you watch the show or the many others before that here. You are welcome!

In the midst of Joseph’s predicament, suffering for a crime he didn’t commit, their mother who just returns from her journey, runs around with the family lawyer, Lawyer Layi, trying to get her son out of jail.

This incident alters the course of John’s life. He starts to reflect on his lifestyle, his actions and decides to change his ways and surrenders his life to Jesus. The lawyer is also able to get Joseph out of jail. And the family rejoices at their deliverance.

(Mummy Joseph, running with joy, to welcome her first son back home)

And then a rendition of “Home” by 121 Selah starts to play in the background. It’s just incredible the way the music, the spoken word piece, the set, the plot all came together into this extraordinary work of art shining the light of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

The show ended with a breathtaking dance by the Dance Team. This dance, was divine, beautiful, angelic and top notch.

Again and again Sycamore Creatives team and the Holy Spirit= Excellence.

A top highlight for me will be seeing people make a decision for Jesus after the show. This Sunday, July 21st 2024 the creative show team will be shining the light of the gospel yet again!

But this time, ECHOES, the next creative show, will be far bigger than what I have described here, far bigger than the pictures you have seen. And it is for FREE! Totally FREE! There will be three shows: An 8am show, a 10am show and a 4pm show. Don’t miss it.

And make sure you come early because the auditorium will be packed full.

The venue is Behind Mobil Filling Station, Samonda, Ibadan. I look forward to hearing stories about your creative show experience.

Before I say bye, check out some comments from fans of the creative show on YouTube. So you know I am not the only fan. We are many.

See you on Sunday, and invite someone to the show. Don’t come alone.
