“I Felt The Burden of Depression Lift From Me” – Mercy Aluko’s Story

Meet Mercy Aluko

My name is Mercy Aluko, a Copywriter/IELTS Instructor and I serve with the Hospitality Team. I joined Sycamore in 2019 and I chose to stay because of the word and worship. I love Hillsong a lot so I fell in love with the worship style at Sycamore too.

Another key thing that influenced my decision to stay was the word. It was always timely even though seeing Pastor Tolu wear crazy jeans and sit to preach was weird to me back then.

Talking About Super Saturday

If I were to describe Super Saturday (a prayer gathering of believers) in three words, those words would be empowering, refreshing and mind-shifting.

Even though I live far away from church, I try to show up as much as possible because I believe God will always have a word for me…not a special prophecy or word in that sense, but just this expectation that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. So, part of that ‘diligent seeking’ for me is showing up and trying to stay focused as much as possible.

Navigating Moments of Discouragement

There have been times where I have felt discouraged and reluctant to show up for our prayer gathering, like on rainy mornings, or days that I sleep late or have a lot to do on Saturdays.

But I always remember Pastor Tolu Moody’s encouragement: that our feelings are great but we can’t allow them to control us.

So, I set my feelings aside and make the decision to show up knowing that I won’t be the same by the time I am done praying, I will definitely feel more empowered and confident to face my day.

Experiencing Miracles During Prayers

I have experienced countless numbers of miracles just from being in the community of other prayer believers. In fact. I remember feeling a burden of depression lift from me after a particular Super Saturday in 2021.

I can remember clearly who led the prayer, where I was and how everything felt like a dream that day. Of course, it was from a build up of listening to messages, praying and talking to people who were close to me at the time but the prayer that day seemed like the last layer I needed to be free from the burden.

Another example happened this year while I was trying to navigate a career decision. I was really praying for clarity. And I can’t forget how God sent me a clear word after crying my heart out to Him at Super Saturday.

A Word of Encouragement

If you are considering joining us for Super Saturday next tomorrow, don’t hesitate, Come right as you are, God is already waiting with His arms open wide to receive you and love up on you. You are going to love the experience!
