WHAT IS HOLY COMMUNION AND WHAT IS ITS PURPOSE?

This might be the most asked question regarding the Communion. The Holy Communion is a symbol, a reminder of the sacrifice our savior, Jesus Christ, made. It is essential to remember Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross for all of humanity’s sins. Holy Communion is an important opportunity to understand and continue to recognize what Christ did. This sacrifice is the foundation of our Christian life and it should not be overlooked.

1 Corinthians 11: 25 says “In the same way, after supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me.”

More than a reminder the Holy Communion is also a direct connection to Jesus and His sacrifice

John 6: 56 says “Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in them.”

HOW OFTEN SHOULD WE TAKE THE HOLY COMMUNION?

There is no clear command in Scripture on how frequently we are to receive the Lord’s Supper. Meaning that there is no limit or no standard to how often you can partake in the Communion. You can take it once a month, once in two months, every week, or whenever you feel led to participate in it.

WHAT EXACTLY IS THE HOLY COMMUNION?

Before you partake, keep in mind that Holy Communion is a blessing to be received, not a ritual to be performed. Because it is not a ceremony, there is no specific bread or special drink. It is not just bread and wine or wafers and wine. It is a gift, a blessing from our Lord Jesus Christ.

Holy Communion is a very important part of Christianity. It is a reminder of the sacrifice, the debt paid for you, me, and all humanity. It is not a chore or something you do just because everyone is doing it. It is a chance and an invitation to connect to God. Open your heart and invite God in, He is waiting for you.
