Bible Reading – Jonah 4
Thoughts for Reflection:
(v 1 – 11) Jonah is now doing a work for God, but is evidently not thinking like God. Notice that he is in a terrible place emotionally- angry, depressed and suicidal, not because he isn’t doing what is right, but because he isn’t thinking right. Take an honest moment today to reflect on how you feel about your relationship with God? About God’s love for sinners? About following and serving Jesus? About doing what’s right and living a life of obedience in a sinful world?
Look over those items one after the other and ask whether you feel excitement and joy, or heaviness and indifference? If in anyway you feel heaviness, take intentional time to recount to yourself and rediscover how much of a privilege it is to be living in the mercy and goodness of God.
In Prayer today:
But it displeased Jonah exceedingly, and he became angry. Jonah 4:1 NKJV
Pray that the Lord will help you to be in a good place emotionally, and not lose your joy this year. Pray that you will delight and find pleasure in following the Lord and doing His will.
In that city of Nineveh there are more than 120,000 people who cannot tell right from wrong, and many cattle are also there. Don’t you think I should be concerned about that big city? Jonah 4:11 CEV
Pray for a God-birthed compassion for your city and the people around you. Pray that your heart will not be cold towards things that God’s heart burns for.
