Day 3: Renewed Vision

Bible Reading: 2 Kings 6:8-20

Have you ever caught yourself thinking about how you would take your biggest chances in life?

Say, for example, you got to address the United Nations General Assembly- what’s that one thing you would want to make sure you throw into that speech? Or that costume you would definitely wear? Or say you won a Grammy or a Nobel Peace Prize- what would you want to make sure you include in your acceptance speech? Was there that one big love stunt that you could hardly wait till your wedding day to pull? If you had dinner with the biggest name in your career, what would be your first question?

When we get big chances, we leak what matters the most to us.

It’s interesting that when the Philistines got their big chance on Samson, who was their big and destructive enemy, they straight away took out his eyes.

Then the Philistines took [Samson] and put out his eyes, and brought him down to Gaza. They bound him with bronze fetters, and he became a grinder in the prison. Judges 16:21 NKJV

I think that is really revealing about how the devil thinks about us as Christians.

If he ever gets a big chance, he wants to steal our vision. If he can, he wants to use the storms and the floods that we walk through to take away our sense of vision.

But God calls us to live in the freshness of vision! God’s intention for our lives is one that is thriving and propelled by a fresh sense of vision.

When there is no clear prophetic vision, people quickly wander astray. But when you follow the revelation of the word, heaven’s bliss fills your soul. Proverbs 29:18 TPT

God wants heaven’s bliss to fill your soul! God wants you living strong and audacious, propelled by a ‘clear prophetic vision’.

My encouragement is that as we wait on God today, we are praying and hungering for a renewed sense of vision to live by! If we don’t watch it, the enemy has his creepy ways of stealing our sense of vision, or shortchanging us on it. Let’s believe today for a sense of vision that is greater than just barely getting-by each day, or customizing our expectations to the economy or situations around town- let’s believe to live our lives with a ‘clear prophetic vision’ that will make us audacious and propel us to live on a front foot!

I think there are quite a few different ways that life and the devil would try to steal our vision:

  1. By stopping us from seeingThe god of this age has blinded the minds of those who don’t have faith so they couldn’t see the light of the gospel that reveals Christ’s glory 2 Corinthians 4:4 CEB

The devil wants us living with a blind mind that just can’t see!  That’s what the Philistines did to Samson. It’s sad to be looking but no longer seeing. That’s the place of blocked out vision, where nothing remotely moves us to action. We miss out on the obvious of what God is doing.

  1. By Creating in Us ‘New Vision’The light of the body is the eye. If therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light. Matthew 6:22 KJV

Have you ever been hit with a bad slap and then suddenly you were seeing  everything in duplicates?  If you’ve been there, you know its not a good place to be. In essence, not every multiplied vision is a blessing. The other way the devil tries to steal our vision is by adding to it a vision that God didn’t give us. We start to strive to win at races we were never even supposed to compete in.

  1. By Toning Down The Spark Of Our VisionThen He brought him outside and said, “Look now toward heaven, and count the stars if you are able to number them.” And He said to him, “So shall your descendants be.”  Genesis 15:5 NKJV

For Abraham, it was not about no vision or a different vision, but it was a big problem of not seeing the extent to which God was saying it. We are all susceptible to this. We start to slim fit and narrow down our expectations. But God tells Abraham to go outside and the count the stars to ‘refresh’ his picture of the vision of what God can do!

As you look ahead into 2021, do you really want a year of ‘clear prophetic vision’ for your life, your family, career, business, relationships, and all? God is pleased to give you just that! Just like Elisha prayed for his servant, I really believe that God is pleased to open our eyes to see ourselves in the light of His calling and purpose over our lives.

Can you feel the passion with which Paul prayed for the Ephesians:

I pray that your hearts will be flooded with light so that you can understand the confident hope he has given to those he called—his holy people who are his rich and glorious inheritance. Ephesians 1:17 NLT

Would you also pray for yourself today?

    In Prayer Today
    1. That your heart will be flooded with light and you will know clearly the things of God for your life in 2021
    2. That you will not give in to distractions or tone downs in your pursuit of vision.
