Bible reading: Genesis 3:6 -21, John 3:16-17
It doesn’t take much to notice- just a look around will convince of the huge problem’s existent in our world. Humanity is absolutely needy. I cringe many times at the extents of the problems people live with from day to day.
Governments disappoint, economies crack, institutions fail, systems are corrupt, injustice abounds… You could go on and on. Abuse. Failure. Sickness. Poverty. Hunger. Problems everywhere. We live on a fallen planet.
That weight is even more apparent in the season the world is now.
Today, we read of the root of all humanity’s problems. We need to be reminded that at the root of this is not a virus from China or poor reporting, it is not a bad government or a policy mistake. At the root of all humanity’s problems is sin. In Adam, we opened the door to all the emptiness and deadness in our world through sin.
Therefore, as sin came into the world through one man, and death as the result of sin, so death spread to all men, [no one being able to stop it or to escape its power] because all men sinned. Romans 5:12 AMPC
But the Bible clearly teaches that the story doesn’t have to end there. God demonstrates Himself to be a God who helps fallen humanity. Did you notice Genesis 3:21?
Also for Adam and his wife the LORD God made tunics of skin, and clothed them (NKJV)
In Adam’s moment of desperation, God made provision. He still does.
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. John 3:16 NKJV
In this season, and especially as we face up to unprecedented times in the world, it is important we remind ourselves and meditate on the fact that Jesus is a statement of God’s eternal provision for humanity. In Jesus, God expresses His love to humanity. In Jesus, God makes provision to meet every need and fill every deficit we encounter through Adam’s sin. And in Jesus, God makes a statement that He will not hold back from humanity.
For if by the one man’s offense death reigned through the one, much more those who receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.) Romans 5:17 NKJV
This is why the reality of the destiny of our world and its people is hinged on whether or not we are in Christ.
I wonder whether you’ve ever related to a sense of need in life? Of course, you have! Would you be reminded today that in Jesus is an all-abounding provision of life and fulfilment?
We live on a fallen planet, but we live empowered by a Risen life-giving Saviour. You do not have to live your life under the burden of sin or the weight of world systems.
We don’t have a priest who is out of touch with our reality. He’s been through weakness and testing, experienced it all—all but the sin. So, let’s walk right up to him and get what he is so ready to give. Take the mercy, accept the help. Hebrews 4:15-16 MSG
Today, would you walk right up to Him in prayer. Don’t be overwhelmed by what’s going on in the immediate picture that you lose sight of the bigger picture.
Take the mercy. Accept the help.
