Day 10: Renewed Focus

Bible Reading: Nehemiah 4:1-23

My dad always told me growing up, that if I ever stood still in the middle of a rowdy Nigerian market, and kept looking up with intense focus, it would just be a matter of time before people would gather around me and join in looking where I am looking, to see what I’m seeing.

Focus pulls following.

I really think that God wants us to live our lives in such a way that at the core of it, we have a strong undaunted focus, that pulls all the other details of our lives to gather around like the market crowd, and fit into that focus.

What would you say is your biggest focus in life? Or what are you focused on this year?

We read today of Nehemiah and his men diligently pursuing their focus of re-building the wall, even when there was opposition mounting against them.

I’ll tell you what, there are going to be some distracting details this year.  I can promise you that. We are never in control of all the factors and climates that surround us.

But the presence of distractions is not an excuse for us to live distracted.

If the distracting details take you off course, it shows the weakness of your original attraction, not the strength of the distraction.

Life has a way of throwing urgent things all around us, to the point that we so easily let go of the things that are really important.

Do you want to end this year in a narrative of how busy you were, or how focused you were? Busy should only be a consequence of focus, not the goal.

In this busy world and rowdy generation that we live, we really need to re-discover what really matters, or else we will loose out on a sense of God and his purpose for our lives.

Have you lost your focus on Jesus? Is he still your overwhelming passionate focus? Do you still really think about pleasing Him? Does it still hunger for His presence in your life? Have you lost your focus on what really matters? Are you so busy and need conscious, that you’re losing your soul?

For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Mark 8:36 NKJV

As we wait on God today, would you believe for the Holy Spirit to give you a fresh and strengthened focus on Jesus and His purpose for your life- a focus on Jesus that is stronger than the appeal of sin; a focus on His purpose that is stronger than the invitation to indulge and live lazy or hazy; a focus on His call that will be a propelling push inspire of all the overwhelming distractions in the world. And let’s believe that out of that strong focus, there will be a following- of all the things that make for a full life.

But first and most importantly seek (aim at, strive after) His kingdom and His righteousness [His way of doing and being right—the attitude and character of God], and all these things will be given to you also. Matthew 6:33 AMP
